Work

Teenage Headache Dream

The fortune of modern people is finally found hell in ourselves, consuming and feeding pain from each other.

Brave New World

Civilization has striven to divide the human race into painful bodies and happy machines.

Chinatown, Made in London

This series of posters attempted to reflect the Post-Chinatown phenomenon, cultural consumerism. Through time, the identity of London’ s Chinatown has changed and now not just a community for Cantonese immigrants, but also part of process of globalization. I attempted to use these playful images to explore the subtle relationship between London’s Chinatown and consumerism.

The Mystery of the Near Futures

I always think there is a mythical dynamic exist between us and mobile phones. Information technologyies are constantly affecting our social values and personal lives. These posters want to explore this subtle and fascinating relationship.

字牌(Two Seven Ten)

Zi Pai (also called Two Seven Ten) is a kind of Chinese traditional playing cards that are popular mainly in the southern part of Mainland China, especially in my hometown, Sichuan. Based on the elements from Chinese calligraphy and Japanese Ukiyoe, I redesigned the font of Zi Pai. Each character on the cards symbolizes number from one to ten.

Famous Night

Famous Night is a street dance competition for global young dancers in Chengdu, China. For the logo design, basically, I used the combination of visual elements of disco ball, vinyl, Saturn and illustration of 80s funk dancers to present a kind of 80s party style. Also, I attempted to use swanking font design and high saturated colour to emphasize its funk culture.

Men Hairstyles

Men hairstyles from different cultures throughout the history.

Animal Farm

A book cover that I designed for a Penguin Competition. In this anti-utopia story, all animals are equal, but some are more equal than others (Orwell, 1945). The pig Napoleon becomes a totalitarian dictator. In the end, no one can distinguish whether Napoleon is a pig or a human. Inspired by Michelangelo’ s masterpiece, The Creation of Adam, in Sistine Chapel ceiling, I attempted to use the elements of Michelangelo’ s Creation of Adam, turned Adam’ s hand to pig’ s feet, to highlight the absurdity of totalitarianism in this book.

Also, inspired by American President Don- ald Trump’ s Make America Great Again red hat, I found there is a main similarity among American politics and Animal Farm. The windmill in Animal Farm is just like “American Dream”, Donald Trump’ s Make America Great Again.

Perec Aujourd’hui

Posters that I designed for Perec Aujourd’hui conference. I attempted to add some crucial visual elements to help people understand the background and the content of the posters.

The part of Georges Perec’s potrait, the French flag’s colour (blue, white and red), the broken space and the removed letter E, all of these visual elements throughout the combination of two posters explored the work and influence of Geroges Perec.

Species of Spaces

This project is redesigning the book cover of Georges Perec’ s Species of Spaces. I attempted to use structuralism style geometric figure to embody the gradually expanding spaces in this book.

Also, I divided the content of this book into 5 books. from the page, the bedroom, the apartment building, the countryside to space, every book is like a space with its specific scale.

呼吸 Breathe

A book that I designed for an independent photographer’s photo album. This album is about breath. Breath is a circulatory process from repression to release. Also, In Chinese, breath(呼吸) consists of two characters, 呼(release) and 吸 (repression).

For book cover design, I attempted to present this kind of contradictory process through the deconstruction and variation of  Chinese characters structure (opposite direction) and black and white colours (opponent colour), like Yin and Yang. For the content layout, I handled the typographic details through the relationship between repression and release.

Golden Slumbers

A book cover that I designed for an independent photographer’s photo album. This photo album is about some forgotten summer scenes and objects from her hometown. Combined with one of her photos, I attempted to use the icon of closed eye and soft colour to convey this content of album.
